Age limit for a bachelor's degree in China under the government scholarship
Yes, for the Chinese Government Scholarship. Section IV item 2 of the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship requires an applicant to be "an academically excellent holder of high school diploma or its equivalent under the age of 25 when applying for an undergraduate program." Everything taken from this guide is a condition of that scholarship, not a general admission rule for all international students. For self-funded study, Articles 11 and 12 of Order No. 42 state no age limit; those articles leave the conditions to each university's admissions brochure.
The scholarship age condition
The age wording appears in Section IV item 2 of the scholarship guide, quoted above. Two points in that item need care:
- Section IV names no date on which age is counted.
- The age condition applies together with the other conditions in Section IV, including the high school diploma or its equivalent, which the item also requires.
Section IV sets different ages for other levels. Item 3 sets "under the age of 35" for a Master's program, and item 4 sets "under the age of 40" for a doctoral program. These are outside the undergraduate question.
Self-funded study
Order No. 42 is the Measures for the Administration of Schools Recruiting and Educating International Students, issued by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security. The text is in Chinese. The English wording below is this site's translation of the Chinese text.
- Article 11 says that, under national admissions rules, each university formulates and publishes its own admissions brochure for international students. It admits students under the conditions and procedures stated in that brochure.
- Article 12 says that a university examines the qualifications and financial guarantee certificates of applicants who are foreign citizens, and examines them through tests or assessments. The university decides admission. A university must not admit applicants who do not meet its admission conditions.
Articles 11 and 12 state no age limit. The age condition in Section IV item 2 belongs to the scholarship. The conditions for a self-funded applicant are the ones in the brochure of the university you apply to, under Article 11.

| Chinese Government Scholarship, Master's | Under 35 | Section IV item 3 |
| Chinese Government Scholarship, doctoral | Under 40 | Section IV item 4 |

Practical suggestion
This is a suggestion, not a requirement: read the admissions brochure of each university you consider and look for its age wording and its date rules, because Article 11 places the conditions in that document. The scholarship guide copy has no publication date, no academic year and no application deadline. For dates, check the current notice of the university or authority handling your case.
