Age limit for a master's in China under the government scholarship
Yes, but only for the Chinese Government Scholarship. The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship sets an age condition for applicants to a Master's program, and that condition is a condition of the scholarship, not a general admission rule. For self-funded applicants, Order No. 42 gives no age limit in Article 11 or Article 12, and under Article 11 each university's own admissions brochure sets its conditions.
The scholarship age condition
Section IV, item 3 of the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship states that an applicant must be:
"an academically excellent holder of a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a Master's program"
Section IV names no date on which age is counted. The English wording above is quoted as published by the China Scholarship Council.
Self-funded applicants
The age condition above is written for the scholarship. Order No. 42 is the Chinese-language regulation on schools recruiting international students. The English below is this site's translation of the Chinese text.
- Article 11 of Order No. 42 says that universities formulate and publish their own admissions brochure for international students under national admission rules. Universities admit international students under the conditions and procedures set in that brochure.
- Article 12 of Order No. 42 says that universities must review applicants' entry qualifications and proof of economic guarantee, and must examine or assess them. Admission is decided by the university. A university must not admit applicants who do not meet its admission conditions.
Article 11 gives no age limit. Article 12 gives no age limit.
